The PSOJ COVID-19 Response Fund Stands For Jamaica During these Trying Times

As donors have continued donating to the PSOJ COVID-19 Response Fund, many Jamaicans in vulnerable communities have been able to gain help as they are suffering from the economic effects of COVID-19. Many of these Jamaicans rely on sectors such as tourism, and with the tourism industry being at a lull, they have been left without jobs or not enough money to sustain themselves. It is of the utmost importance that we come together during this time to continue giving and supporting those who need it most.

The PSOJ COVID-19 Fund has been able to raise $190 million JMD, with $131 million in cash and $59 million in-kind. These donations have gone towards supplying 58,658 beneficiaries with food and sanitary products. In addition, because of our 107 local donors and 916 overseas donors, we have been able to deliver 51,647 packages to 47 communities.

Over 32 NGOs have now been supported through the fund, and able to help those in other vulnerable communities. Through the NGOs the fund has helped complete 536 health checks.

All of these efforts have been made possible through your generosity. We would also like to give special thanks to the Jamaica Constabulary Force who delivers packages directly into the hands of beneficiaries, our stakeholders, Council of Voluntary Social Services (CVSS), United Way of Jamaica (UWJ), American Friends of Jamaica (AFJ)  and our 1143 volunteers who have contributed 23,400 volunteer hours.

In a continued effort to aid those in vulnerable communities, the PSOJ COVID-19 Response Fund has created a virtual Fund Run.  The United Way of Jamaica, alongside the PSOJ has created a virtual run which is a run, walk or ride even of a predetermined distance that participants can complete on any day and time within a specific period that best suits their schedule.
